What does Panthenol do for skin?
Provitamin converted to pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) in the skin. Pantothenic acid is a component of coenzyme A, essential for lipid synthesis and energy metabolism in cells. Stimulates fibroblast proliferation and accelerates re-epithelialization in wound healing. Acts as a humectant, binding water in the stratum corneum. Anti-inflammatory via reduction of IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-alpha.
Typical concentration: 1-5% (most formulations use 2-5%)
Is Panthenol safe?
Extremely well tolerated. CIR Expert Panel: safe as used in cosmetics. No sensitization potential. Suitable for sensitive and baby skin.
