Ubiquinone
유비퀴논
Antioxidant that helps protect skin from environmental damage.
What does Ubiquinone do for skin?
Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10) functions as a potent antioxidant in the skin, neutralizing free radicals (reactive oxygen species) generated by UV radiation and environmental stressors, thereby protecting cellular structures from oxidative damage. It is also an essential cofactor in the mitochondrial electron transport chain, crucial for adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production, supplying energy for vital skin cell functions like repair, regeneration, and the synthesis of collagen and elastin. By supporting cellular energy and reducing oxidative stress, it helps mitigate signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles, and improves skin resilience.
Typical concentration: 0.01-1% (most formulas use 0.03-0.5%). Higher concentrations, up to 3% or more, may be used in targeted anti-aging formulations.
Is Ubiquinone safe?
Ubiquinone is generally considered safe for use in cosmetics. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has assessed Ubiquinone and concluded it is safe as a cosmetic ingredient. It has a low potential for skin irritation or sensitization.
