What does Sodium Pca do for skin?
Sodium PCA is a naturally occurring humectant and a key component of the skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF). It functions by attracting and binding water molecules from the atmosphere and deeper epidermal layers, thereby increasing the water content in the stratum corneum. This mechanism helps to maintain skin hydration, improve elasticity, and support the integrity of the skin barrier, leading to a smoother and more flexible skin surface.
Typical concentration: 0.5-10% (most formulas use 0.5-5%)
Is Sodium Pca safe?
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has assessed Sodium PCA and found it safe for use in cosmetics. It is generally well-tolerated and considered non-irritating and non-sensitizing at typical cosmetic concentrations.
