Hemp Seed Oil
Emollient rich in fatty acids that nourishes and moisturizes the skin.
What does Hemp Seed Oil do for skin?
Hemp Seed Oil is rich in essential fatty acids (EFAs), primarily linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) in a beneficial ratio. These EFAs are crucial for maintaining the skin's epidermal barrier function by being precursors to ceramides, which are integral to the stratum corneum lipid matrix. Its fatty acid profile, including gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), also contributes to anti-inflammatory properties by modulating pro-inflammatory pathways. Additionally, it acts as an emollient, forming an occlusive layer to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and thus enhancing skin hydration and softness.
Typical concentration: 5-30% in emulsion-based products (e.g., lotions, creams), and up to 100% in pure oil formulations, serums, or balms.
Is Hemp Seed Oil safe?
Hemp Seed Oil is generally considered safe for topical cosmetic use. It exhibits low irritation and sensitization potential. There is no specific CIR Expert Panel assessment published for 'Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil' alone, but it is widely accepted as safe due to its historical use and composition as a vegetable oil.
